Showreel Complete

I finally got my animation showreel done!

I included the animations that I did with my friend Jordan which were mainly Stop-motion ones.

I’m actually really happy with it. I originally intended to make it using Windows Live Movie Maker, but I need to use iMovie because it was making me angry.

I then made the entire soundtrack in GarageBand.

I really just put a repetitive sound in first and then hit random keys repeatedly- it sounds pretty good to me. I actually think it’s better than all my other attempts for the crystal world project.

I got the cartoon falling sound from (Link:

Adding Light To Lamp In MAYA

These are just a few tutorials that I found on lighting… The first one being a bit more complicated than was actually needed:

This one was part of a three section tutorial, the second section being the most helpful as it explained how to add lighting to a light bulb source:

Sadly we had to scrap that idea and make out own animations so we made the worm curious of the shapes that he is met with until he finds the one that he is interested in the most… more of a PG version of the events we were going for. I used squash and stretch whilst also using the rig controls to make the…

Showreel! I’m actually doing it!!!

I’ve finally gotten around to it.

I’m just going to use Windows Live Maker, because iMovie just annoys me at the minute.

I’ll need to plan out which animations, would flow best together, so that to looks good- then there’s the music.

I might make it in GarageBand, or just use something off my Walkman.

Middle and Eastern European Animation

Zagreb school of animation in Croatia is part of Zagreb film company. The animators developed the definition of animation by stressing the aesthetic and philosophic aspects.
Zagreb school of animated film
an artistic movement- to step away from Disney
1950-52: WWII disney style satire
1956: studio of animated film
Golden Age (1957-1980) spanned 3 waves:
  1. (1957-62)
  2. (1965-69)
  3. 1972-80)
Due to cell limitations, they didn’t do full animation, in the film we watched, notice how they didn’t have him walk to locations, instead he would magically appear.
Graphically simple and reduced drawing form, bring a new stylised movement. Up to 3x less drawings per animation, no text and a synaesthesia of music/sound and image.
Thematic: modern, everyday and universal.
Expression: stylized, minimalistic, limited, reduced, cross-over between art and cinema.
