Showreel Complete

I finally got my animation showreel done!

I included the animations that I did with my friend Jordan which were mainly Stop-motion ones.

I’m actually really happy with it. I originally intended to make it using Windows Live Movie Maker, but I need to use iMovie because it was making me angry.

I then made the entire soundtrack in GarageBand.

I really just put a repetitive sound in first and then hit random keys repeatedly- it sounds pretty good to me. I actually think it’s better than all my other attempts for the crystal world project.

I got the cartoon falling sound from Freesound.org. (Link: https://www.freesound.org/people/CGEffex/sounds/89546/)

Kyoki The Key

So this is the final video in the Life and Death series.

Jordan came up with the name “Kyoki” which I kept changing to “Keyoki” because… well, it is an animation about a key…

I thought it was funny (or should I say “punny”?).

I apologise for my sense of humour.

Anyway, after spending weeks on this and realising that it made absolutely no sense without an explanation, we chose to upload it to youtube because after watching it constantly, we just became more and more amused by it.

We do actually intend to upload a version with subtitles but haven’t had the time at the minute.

Jordan and I originally intended to create it using clay but then realised that it would be rather time consuming and that we didn’t actually have enough clay. So we thought drawing it all out would be easier -HA!

It was far more time consuming that we thought.

I used Photoshop to draw the different images – all 129 of them – thankfully making good use of the layers. Then saved each change as a .jpeg, that I imported into Windows Live Movie Maker and set each frame to last around 0.1 of a second. Jordan helped by telling me the numbers I saved the frames as and whatever I was about to do next because I kept forgetting what I was doing.

We constantly reviewed what we had done, and probably due to exhaustion of watching the same thing over and over again, found it absolutely hysterical. Then again, we are rather strange on a good day too. (See “punny” for evidence of this).

The main idea was that when you are born, you get a key. Then, for as long as you have the key in your possession you live, so if you lose it you die.

Jordan just liked the “maggot baby”.

Bob The Ball

My friend Jordan and I quite enjoy doing stop-motion and we decided to make series of videos.

This is Bob.

He was the first full animation that we made out of modelling clay.

We quickly discovered that stop-motion requires patience and consistency.

It was also horrible trying to keep my DSLR focused. I had the auto-focus on and as the ball -Bob- moved along the screen the camera started zooming out to keep focused on Bob rather than the scene, so it forced me to actually read the manual and find out how to turn off the auto-focus.

At the end I used Photoshop to make Bob disappear into his own grave, which I had never tried before, and actually thought turned out rather well.
